Hi, I’m Stacy and welcome to How to Make Candles at Home! If you’re like me and are a stay at home mom or someone who just likes to have something constructive to do with your time, you may have tried a stay at home job. For me it was selling candles for one of those expensive, catalog candle companies. While hearing the success of some fellow sales-women I felt that I was failing when I could not sell enough candles to really be worth my time. Then I realized it wasn’t mine or my customers fault, it was simply the fact that the candles were over priced, took to long to arrive and the sales technique was too pushy. That is when I discovered the best ways to make candles at home, whether to sell or just for fun, you can save money and frustration. The great news is it is much easier than I anticipated and I’m confident you’ll feel the same.

How To Make Scented Candles At Home 0

Most of the colored crystal wax you find is already scented so with the variety of colors and smells you can come up with many different combinations. When melted down the crystal wax will tend to be much darker so unless you want a bold color you can mix in a bit of the white to lighten up the color. You can even mix colors to achieve the look you want. There are dozens of scents you can find whether online or in craft stores, ranging from perfumy to edible smells. Melting down wax should always be handled with much caution but don’t be afraid.

Here’s how to make scented candles at home. Prepare the holder that you have selected by securing an anchored wick. Then melt down the desired mixture of color and scents in a double boiler until it reaches 165˚ degrees. Carefully pour it into your holder and let cool.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to making your own candles. Try layering shades by starting with your base color, letting it cool, and adding your next color. Or try decorating the outside of pillars with shells, beads, even coffee beans. It’s fun to make them just perfect for your special occasion such as weddings, baby showers, graduations, anniversaries and so on.
